May 2018: Month of innovation at Adfast

Last May has been a gruelling month for our team.  As we all know, with the warm weather comes the busiest season in the construction industry. Our top executives have been busy attending events in order to meet with the different stakeholders of the 4.0 movement to discuss about the industry’s best practices for innovation and creativity.  Below is a brief summary of these events:

Innovative Manufacturer’s Forum May 11

On May 11, Adfast took part in the Strategic Forum on Innovative Manufacturers, an initiative of Investissement Québec and the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. The forum brought together nearly 800 participants including Québec Premier Philippe Couillard and the Deputy Premier of Quebec, Minister of the Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy, Dominique Anglade.

Our team spoke about the  innovation in the manufacturing sector and the challenges surrounding the shift to Industry 4.0.

C2 Montreal May 23-24-25

We attended the C2 Montreal conference as part of the Parcours Innovation SME program. It’s a one of-a-kind trade, design and creativity event where attendees joined workshops and panels of world-class speakers.  The following is a brief summary of our 3-day event:

Day 1

Conference of the Brazilian architect, Guto Requena. Here we get to explore the idea of making our cities more empathetic by design and architecture. Next, a discussion with Christopher Abrassart, Associate Professor at the University of Montreal  about the Responsible Artificial Intelligence. We ended the day with a rather playful multi-disciplinary master class led by Philippe Meunier, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Sid Lee.

Day 2

Day 2 begins in the main marquee with the LGTBQ and Rights Activist, Chelsea Manning.  In this gathering Chelsea  spoke about ethical issues related to new technologies. Later in the day, we get to try something really neat by asking a question to a rock in a self-hypnosis laboratory.  Finally we ended the day by participating in a collaborative workshop on Design Thinking by the design firm IDEO.

Day 3

We were honored to get a chance to listen to a very inspiring speech from our Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency-the Honorable Julie Payette.  Here she discussed the importance of” taking care of yourself to take care of the team”. And to wrap things up, the well-known Rapper and Entrepreneur, Snoop Dog gave us a lesson in humility by telling us to “surround yourself with people who are better than you.

SME 2.0 to Enterprise 4.0 panel May 31th

We ended the month by participating in the panel of “The Evolving Manufacturer”: when the digital changes the roles on the factory floor.  This event was organized by CEFRIO.  Our President, Yves Dandurand accompanied by Daniel Sirois, Mécanique CNC and Robert Pellerin, Polytechnique discussed the importance of training for the implementation of the 4.0 model in the company.
